Riyana (Mira) Miranti is an Associate Professor at the SchoPES. She is an applied economist and a development economist. She received her PhD in Economics from the ANU in 2008 and joined UC in 2007. Mira’s research interests are in the areas of social equity and well-being with two countries of specialisation, Australia and Indonesia. Previously, she worked as a Research Associate at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) in Singapore and was an Associate Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia. She is also a visiting fellow at the Indonesia Project at the ANU. Currently, she is researching various topics, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women’s role in Indonesia and the continuum of care of maternal and child health in developing countries. In addition, Mira is also the Deputy Director of the MPP program, a Research Coordinator for SchoPES and convenes the Indonesian collaboration activities at the Faculty.
The Weekly Wrap caught up with Mira and here are her answers to our light-hearted questions.
What’s the ideal start to a Sunday? Gentle start or a jolt?
Gentle but the I realise that I need to do household chores…😊
What’s the best thing you’ve watched on TV recently?
‘Old enough!’ series on Netflix. I am amazed by these young children’s perseverance in running errands on their own for the very first time.
Soundtrack of your choice?
Anything composed by Hans Zimmer, will do.
Best vacation you’ve been to?
Japan in 2016. We enjoyed the Shinkansen and Japanese food.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
I love watching sports events, particularly tennis and soccer (not that I can play them). My family and I went to Melbourne to watch the Australian Open in 2019, three-night matches in a row and loved it. We are looking forward to watching Manchester United vs Melbourne Victory in July.

Indonesian chicken noodle soup (mie ayam) cooked by my husband.
Spring, summer, autumn or winter?
Spring as it is so beautiful to see flowers of different colours blooming.

Be kind to yourself
What would you do with your time if you didn’t have to work?
Enjoy pilates, watch movies together with my family or play with my lovely cat.
