DR ROBERT RIGBY joined us as our new Faculty General Manager on the 12 July. Before joining us Rob was the Deputy Director of Research Services at ANU. He was previously an academic but decided that having any work-life balance would be better achieved by moving to the public service. He has previously worked at the NHRMC and TGA before moving into research leadership at the ANU.
Here he discusses his favourite TV show, his family and his favourite vacation.
What’s the ideal start to a Sunday? Gentle start or a jolt?
Gentle would be ideal, but the realistic start is getting jumped on by my son then making him breakfast to buy some time to work out in my garage gym!
What’s the best thing you’ve watched on TV recently?
Line of Duty – we finished the last season and went straight back to the start to watch it again.
And what’s your movie genre of choice?
80s action films (see below…)
A glass of something you’d recommend?
Anything from Capital Brewery
Something from Apple iTunes or Spotify that you are listening to.
The new single from Iron Maiden (aren’t we all?!)
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Best vacation you’ve been to?
They have all been good! Highlights have been driving around Iceland, scuba diving in Borneo, riding a motorcycle around the Indian Himalayas and every trip back to the UK to catch up with friends and family.
Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
I grew up in south-east London, and moved to Australia in 2006 to do research at ANU. After falling in love with Canberra and out of love with medical research (but it wasn’t all bad, I met my now wife in the lab!) I spent 7 years in the Australian Public Service. I then went back to ANU in a professional role as Deputy Director of Research Services Division. We have a 4.5 year old son called Lincoln and two cats called Bruce and Pistachio. Lincoln has inherited his father’s love of building Lego, pottering around the garden and playing video games!
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
I have won first prize for my tomatoes at the Canberra show two years in a row!
The ideal dinner menu?
Anything from India – and a couple of pints of good English ale!
